A week after Jutland, Field Marshall Lord Kitchener used by HMS Hampshire to take him to Russia for talks. The ship took the westerly route around the Orkney and, on June 5th, sunk after hitting a mine. Ktchener was drowned. Of the 655 crewmen and 7 passengers, 12 crew survived, having used 2 Carley boats to get ashore. David Lloyd Geroge had been slated to join him and had to cancel at the last moment.
